Effective web design starts with the objectives your target prospects and leads them through a sales funnel with thoughtful information, great SEO, and solid content. The reality is that you continue building your web site long after it is created.  Your website is extended by all of the channels where you publish and you need to think of those channels as part of your web site. A Facebook page is no substitute for a website because you cannot accurately measure all that you need to or develop full marketing funnels with it.

 

Marketing through email is the heart and soul of your sales funnel. It is the single most important selling tool that you have. If you are not using it correctly then you're leaving money on the table. This is where you connect, make offers, get to know people and generally talk to your customer base. All leads need to go to your email marketing software, then you need to segment your audiences. Look where your audiences clicked on something in your emails. They are interested in that, whatever it is. Is your email designed to easily show you interests that correlate to your products or services? Do you need help with that? We can take over!

 

You need a presence and you need to put the links to your landing pages and your resources on it. But you can't just broadcast and post. You need to also read, listen, connect and network. Social media is important for customer service. You need to monitor what people are saying about you.

Is your content easy to navigate? Do you have a clear landing page for each marketing campaign? Are you running marketing campaigns? Do you have hooks, reassurances and Calls to Action on your pages? Has your content been updated this year? Are you blogging? Are you creating white papers, pdfs, videos, games, apps and other tools that your potential buyers can give you an email address in exchange for? Are you using email newsletter marketing? The good news is, if you're a small business, you don't have to do it ALL and do it all at once. Take small steps. If you're a business with no blog, it's time to use one. If your site hasn't been updated since 2015, it's time to open it up and make some changes. If you aren't using email marketing, why yes, you should. If you have email marketing but are not using it, it's time to dust it off. DO something. Better than nothing!

A simple marketing funnel will consist of a resource that you share out to social media, linking back to a landing page on your site where people can get the resource for free after they give you their email address. Then you need to make sure that you have a welcome campaign set up to welcome new subscribers. You want people to buy, donate, subscribe, etc. but the most fundamental need is to get that email address. People just finding you for the first time are cold consumers. If someone gives you their email address they are saying they want to know you better. You then have the opportunity to build a relationship.

Once your website or blog is indexed, there will be more traffic from Google search. Content discovery will happen faster if you have set up sitemaps or have an RSS feed. Blog content is crawled and indexed faster than regular pages on a static website, so consider having a blog that supports your website. You certainly hope people will find your website or blog through a search.  But typically, you have to wait around for the Googlebot to crawl your website and add it to the Google index. Here are the basics of how website content is crawled and indexed:

The Googlebot is simply software that Google sends out to collect information about documents on the web to add to Google’s searchable index.

Crawling is the process where the Googlebot goes around from website to website, finding new and updated information to report back to Google. The Googlebot finds what to crawl using links.
 
Indexing is the processing of the information gathered by the Googlebot from its crawling. Once documents are processed, they are added to Google’s searchable index if they are determined to be quality content. During indexing, the Googlebot processes the words on a page and where those words are located.

 

The Googlebot finds new content on the web such as new websites, blogs, pages, etc. by starting with web pages captured during previous crawl processes and adds in sitemap data provided by webmasters. As it browses web pages previously crawled, it will detect links upon those pages to add to the list of pages to be crawled.
